President Ilham Aliyev claimed that following the Armenian leadership’s move to recognise Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, it would be easier to reach a peace agreement, during a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday.

"After the Armenian leadership’s recent statements on the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, as well as the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan with specific figures for the area of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it will be much easier to agree on other points of the peace treaty, because that was the main factor on which we could not come to terms," he stated.

Meanwhile, Putin said that Russian-Azerbaijani relations were at a ‘high level’ and were developing according to the principles of equality and consideration for each other's interests.

Earlier on Thursday, at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reported that "Armenia and Azerbaijan have recognised each other's territorial integrity."

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) meeting was held in Moscow on May 25 under the chairmanship of the Russian president. The heads of member states discussed the implementation of Eurasian economic integration until 2025, as well as the main directions of the EAEU's international activities for 2023, among a number of other key topics.
