Russian President Vladimir Putin said that co-operation within the Eurasian Economic Union was 'proceeding very well', during a narrow format meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the Grand Kremlin Palace on Thursday.
"Co-operation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union is proceeding very well. As the president of Kazakhstan said, Armenia is the main beneficiary, because Armenia has the highest rate of economic growth," the president stated.
Putin added that the agenda included discussions on integration across specific areas, including 'energy and food security, technological and financial independence, acceleration of digital transformation, elimination of regulatory and trade barriers, and development of transport infrastructure'.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov and Eurasian Economic Commission Board Chairperson Mikhail Myasnikovich took part in the meeting.
Afterwards, the talks continued in an extended format. Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon, took part via video link, while President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also attended the meeting.
Earlier, the Kremlin's press service said that Putin would hold separate bilateral meetings with Pashinyan and Aliyev, as well as trilateral talks.
