Russia: US tries to slow down development of cooperation between Russia and Africa - Lukashenko
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that the United States was attempting to slow down the process of Russia's co-operation with Africa, during a plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow on Wednesday.
"The Russian Foreign Ministry and others involved in politics know how the Americans are trying to stall this process, to keep us out of Africa. But China is already there. There is a struggle for these countries. This is why there will be a future policy of our development, a very active one," he said.
The Belarusian president added that Russia 'took a risk to challenge the unipolar world'.
"Russia should be very active. Its authority is huge, despite the fact that the West is loudly criticising Russia in all mass media," Lukashenko stated.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke of the 'unique' Union State of Russia and Belarus.
"We have a Union State in the Eurasian Economic Union - a unique precedent or phenomenon in world political history; the creation of a state under the formula 'two countries one state' with a single political, legal, military, economic, monetary, cultural, humanitarian space, with a single union government, a single union parliament and even, excuse me, one nuclear weapon for two," Tokayev noted.
Chinese President Xi Jinping also addressed the meeting.
"In my initiatives on global development, global security, global civilisation initiative, I called for a pure and beautiful world with peace, universal security, shared prosperity, openness and inclusiveness reign, with the fostering of a community and a united destiny for humanity," he said.
The Eurasian Economic Forum takes place from May 24-25. Representatives of more than 50 countries arrived in Moscow to participate in the event, including the leaders of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union), BRICS and SCO (Shanghai Co-operation Organisation) member states.
