Space: Roscosmos Progress 84 successfully docks with ISS
The unmanned Roscosmos Progress 84 spacecraft successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, after launching into orbit from Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome earlier in the day.
The Russian cargo vessel was delivering 2.7 tons of fresh supplies for cosmonauts aboard the station, including food, water, clothing and more.
The voyage of Progress 84 lasted less than 3.5 hours, ending as the craft docked with the station’s Poisk module. The spacecraft made two full orbits around the Earth before completing its mission.
According to EverydayAstronaut.com, the craft was also carrying a payload of scientific gear, including a launch device with an experimental nanosatellite “to test the technology of deploying a solar sail."
Unlike SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, Progress is an expendable robotic craft and will eventually burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.
