France: Clashes erupt during march against 'police brutality' in Paris as restaurant customers wine and dine
Clashes erupted between French security forces and Antifa protesters, who held a march through Paris streets on Thursday night, following a demonstration at the town hall against alleged police brutality.
Meanwhile, Parisian restaurant customers were seen having drinks and meals while watching the clashes.
Protesters could be seen chanting anti-Macron slogans, setting rubbish bins and electric bicycles on fire, breaking windows of shops, smashing cars and setting barricades in the middle of roads.
Police units surrounded the crowd and used tear gas to disperse protesters. Several activists were detained during the police operation.
According to French media, more than 4,000 protesters gathered in front of l'Hôtel de Ville in Paris centre to denounce police tactics and voice support for those injured in last Saturday’s eco-demonstration against the mega-basin project in Sainte-Soline.
After the official rally, called by the 'Earth Uprisings' (Les soulèvements de la Terre) association, hundreds of young protesters, led by black-clad activists, started an unauthorised march through the central part of Paris.
