Tens of thousands of fans flocked to Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on Sunday to watch the "Final Four" of the new seven-a-side Kings League competition created by former football star Gerard Pique.

Twelve teams battle out to be crowned champions in the football competition, which is the brainchild of former Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique.

“The truth is that watching the King's League is an opportunity. It is the first time it has been done and we are going to make history,” a fan said.

"This is going to give a small lesson to the normal league because they are doing very cool things and they are encouraging children to watch football," another fan commented,

Organisers said more than 92,000 fans watched the new league at Camp Nou, Europe's largest football stadium.

“Well, I think that football needs a turnaround. And getting people to pay attention for 60, 70 or 80 minutes is very difficult, but they manage it," said Gabriel Rufian, a Catalan politician who watched the football competition, adding, “Yes, I follow the King's League. Not as much as I would like. But it's good to innovate."

El Barrio beat Aniquiladores 3-0 in Sunday’s final, becoming the first winning team in the competition.
