Germany: 'It is an honour' - Bayern Munich unveil new manager Thomas Tuchel
Bayern Munich unveiled their new manager Thomas Tuchel, who had previously worked at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the club's CEO Oliver Kahn and Sports Director Hasan Salihamidzic, Tuchel said it is an honour for him to coach the club adding that the role carries responsibility. "I noticed yesterday at the office that when you sign an employment contract with Bayern Munich late in the evening on Sabenerstrasse, that's something very unusual and it's an honour and a distinction to be enquired and have the opportunity to play for the club," Tuchel stated.
"You can play for any title with this squad, we're competitive at the very highest level, so of course that's a big obligation for me," he added.
Salihamidzic went on to say that "we've concluded that we need a top man that we need now, that we need a coach who has gained a lot of experience."
Commenting on the decision to fire former manager Julian Nagelsmann, Kahn said "It just didn't work that way anymore and then you have to, and that's our job, take on this responsibility and also make unpopular decisions that not everyone understands immediately."
Tuchel was appointed after Bayern Munich fired Nagelsmann as the team dropped to the second rank in the Bundesliga.
