Most people think that truffles can only be ordered in high-end restaurants, but in Tokyo, that’s no longer the case. A Japanese importer of fresh truffles has created a scented vending machine which dispenses luxury items with just a few taps on a screen, as seen in footage captured on Wednesday.

‘Fresh Truffle Japan’ sources its opulent products from Italy and sells them through its vending machine at the ‘Truffle Gallery’ in Tokyo’s Aoyama district.

“With the progress of contactless sales during the coronavirus pandemic, customers are shopping at vending machines without any resistance. These vending machines allow customers to view product descriptions and images on a screen,” said Haruyo Suzuki from Fresh Truffle Japan’s PR team.

The unique vending machine projects the scent of truffles through an odour emitter mounted on top of the machine. A speaker also plays forest sounds, providing customers with a fully immersive experience while they browse through the products on offer.

“The world's first vending machine that emits the aroma of truffles has been picked up by TV, magazines, and other media, resulting in an increase in orders. We have also been able to attract many visitors to our gallery who were not so interested in truffles in the past," Suzuki explained.

Customers at the Truffle Gallery are full of adoration for the innovative vending machine and praise it for providing them with unique gifts and treats without any hassle.

“I can come here to buy something for my friends tomorrow, or as a souvenir, or when I am in a hurry, I can come here and buy it right away, and when I present it the next day, people are so happy, so yes, I am very glad to have the vending machine," said a customer named Yuki.

The Truffle Gallery was opened to the public in the Autumn of 2022. Partly a shop and partly a museum, the popular outlet features exhibitions which educate visitors on the delights of truffles while also providing an array of bespoke truffle-based treats for purchase.
