Residents of Santa Cruz and Capitola, two towns located on central California’s coast, expressed their concerns after a storm hit the region, destroying trees and leaving thousands without power.

Footage filmed on Tuesday features strong winds blowing dozens of trees and traffic signs, while roads had to be closed because of the impact of the weather.

"I'm glad because California is finally out of the drought. But this is wild, with all the wind, the trees blowing left and right. Like, it isn’t usual," said Chris Hayes, one of the locals.

According to another respondent, Lorena Mauricio, the tourism sector in the region has been impacted since the storm, and local businesses have been affected.

"As far as weather patterns it feels it has become more frequent and a little bit more dangerous, as you can see," the woman commented.

Over 24,000 homes reportedly suffered power outages in the region due to the storm, and more than 200,000 across the whole of California.
