Riot police deployed tear gas canisters and clashed with protesters who took to the streets of Paris and marched to Bastille square after the French government survived no-confidence votes over its pension reforms on Monday.

Footage features a number of arrests being made. Fires are seen burning in the streets, with activists smashing the glass at a bus stop and at an ATM machine. Fire crews are shown trying to extinguish the blazes.

Over 100 people were reportedly detained in the capital.

The Macron government survived two no-confidence motions on Monday, one by just nine votes, after it used executive powers to pass pension reforms without a vote in the National Assembly last Thursday.

Regular demonstrations and strikes against the plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 have taken place in recent months.
