The New York Police Department (NYPD) was seen preparing the streets surrounding Trump Tower in Manhattan on Monday ahead of an anticipated indictment against former President Donald Trump.

Footage shows police officers unloading concrete barricades with a forklift truck and lining the pavements with them. Metal fences could also be seen at the roadside.

“I think if it does happen will be historical. No other president has been arrested,” a local said. “It's going to be interesting if he does get arrested. I think there's going to be a big turnout here at the Trump Towers."

Trump announced that he expected to be arrested on Tuesday, writing on his Truth Social account on Saturday and calling on followers to 'protest, take our nation back!'

Prosecutors in New York are considering charges over an alleged hush money payment of $130,000 made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign. Trump has always strongly denied an affair with her, while his legal team has accused her of extortion.

On Monday, police officers reportedly held a meeting with the mayor's public safety aides to discuss security measures in the event of a mass demonstration outside of the building which houses Trump’s penthouse condominium residence.

According to representatives of the NYPD, as many as 700 officers may be deployed as a strategic response group in the event of civil unrest.
