Hundreds of Barcelona FC fans welcomed their team to the Camp Nou stadium on Sunday, ahead of the crucial La Liga clash with Real Madrid, a fixture traditionally dubbed 'El Clasico'.

"A clasico is the maximum expression of the sport of soccer in a country," said one fan, who had come from South America. "We have traveled … eleven hours of flight to Madrid and three hours of train just to see the classic.”

Footage showed hundreds of fans, some dressed in jerseys, waiting outside the entrance, with camera crews filming the build-up.

"[This is] the first time I come to Barcelona and it is really a dream to see the atmosphere," said another fan.

The match was expected to help settle the title race, and didn’t disappoint the Barcelona faithful. Their team went 1-0 down in the first half, before Sergi Roberto equalised before half time and Franck Kessie got the injury time winner.

The 2-1 scoreline put Barcelona 12 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table, with 12 games left to play.
