A powerful flood hit Turkey's southeastern region and left at least five dead and several missing, in Sanliurfa, on Wednesday.

Footage features severely-flooded streets, submerged roads, trapped cars, and damaged properties. Firefighters can be seen at the scene attempting to help. Locals could also be witnessed using pavements on streets to be away from the flood and possible risks.

Examining the devastated hard-hit areas by flood, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced that four citizens were caught in the flood waters but one person was found dead.

Local media reported that Turkey's disaster management agency (AFAD), municipality, and police dispatched their teams to evacuate residents from flooded areas. The torrential rain caused flash flooding in different parts of the southern Sanliurfa and Adiyaman provinces.

Adiyaman Provincial government announced a list consisting of mosques and schools as places where those affected by the floods can take shelter. The country has still been grappling with the consequences of the massive Turkey-Syria earthquakes and many of those affected by the recent flood are living in tents in several temporary shelters.
