UK: ‘Not my king’ - Dozens protest outside Westminster Abbey on Charles III's first Commonwealth Day service as monarch
Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside Westminster Abbey in London on Monday for an anti-monarchy protest ahead of Commonwealth Day festivities.
Footage shows protesters carrying the LGBTQIA+ flag and chanting slogans, as well as holding signs reading ‘Not my king’ and ‘Racist royal family’. The video also shows King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, arriving for the ceremony.
“The concept of blood line which the royal family perpetuates and promotes it is responsible for slavery, empire, colonialism and a lot of other evils in the world. We should all reject it and leave it in the past where it belongs,” said one of the protesters.
Commonwealth Day 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter by the late Queen Elizabeth II. It is the first celebration led by King Charles III.
