Germany: 'Weapons do not bring peace’ - Hundreds rally in Bavaria against arms deliveries to Ukraine
Hundreds took to the streets of Aschaffenburg on Sunday to protest against the delivery of arms to Ukraine and demand the end of the conflict.
Protesters marched along the streets of the Bavarian city carrying flags and signs, including ‘All together for peace’, 'I am at peace with Russia and Ukraine', and 'Weapons do not bring peace'.
Germany repeatedly delivered financial, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine since the beginning of the armed conflict. Along these lines, the German Defence Ministry recently announced a 1 billion euro military aid package to Ukraine.
The continued arms deliveries to Kiev, the sanctions on Russia and the gas embargo have sparked protests in various cities globally in the last months.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine on February 24 last year after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
However, Ukraine denounce the implemented Russian action as an ‘invasion’. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law across the country declaring a general mobilization, while the EU and US imposed various rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
