Lebanon: 'Not a good life, but we fled from the war' - Syrian refugees in Lebanon share dramatic stories

The Syrian population in the Wazzani refugee camp commented on their situation and shared their memories twelve years after the start of the conflict.

Footage recorded on Sunday showed refugees now living in tents with escarce resources.

"We live in tents in stormy weather, humidity, and cold, we and our children, and we are elderly. It's not a good life, but we fled from the war", said a refugee.

"My children want to go back to Syria, but the situation is difficult," sais another woman.

"Here we can secure our livelihoods, but there is nothing there, not even a job," shares another refugee. "There is no work for us and we have no home," she added.

Following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war on 15 March 2011, thousands of refugees began entering Lebanon.

Since the start of the conflict, an estimated 400,000 people have been killed, according to UN figures. The UN Refugee Agency claims as many as 6.66 million were internally displaced in Syria in 2021.
