China: 'Didn’t used to warm up until April’ - Beijing locals dress for summer as temperatures reach seasonal record
Surprisingly warm weather reaching 21 degrees Celsius (approx. 70 Fahrenheit) allowed some Beijing residents wear short-sleeve shirts and shorts as seen in footage filmed on Friday.
“I have been in Beijing for 12 years, and the climate in Beijing is very hot this year. Today, it is basically more than 20 degrees, and I feel very hot walking on the road. Beijing didn’t used to warm up until April” shared a local resident Ms. Huang.
Dozens of Chinese cities experienced a strong heat wave this week, including the cities of Wuhan and Zhengzhou, where thermometers registered a temperature 10 degrees Celsius (approx. 70 Fahrenheit) higher than usual for early March.
China’s weather bureau warned that 2023 would be another year of extreme weather as a result of global climate change.
