You batter believe it! Indian restaurant serves up luxury pancakes covered in gold
Restaurant 'House of Dosas' is offering a beloved local breakfast dish with an added touch of luxury, as seen in footage captured in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Chefs at the cosy eatery are serving up their 'dosas' (a thin pancake popular in southern India) with an edible 24-karat sheet of gold.
“We thought of adding 'Gold Dosa' to this menu for our customers. We want to try something special and all our products are special in Hyderabad, you can find the 'Gold Dosa' only in House of Dosa in Hyderabad," said Abhiram Prasad, the restaurant’s manager.
Prasad says no expense has been spared, and only the best ingredients are used to make his unique ‘Gold Dosa’, including dry fruits, spices and no less than nine different chutneys.
The lavish dish is being sold for 916 Rupees (€10), which is roughly three times the price of a standard dosa.
"Why we are charging 916 Rupees for each dosa? Because one gold foil itself costs us 600 Rupees and the overall cost of each 'Gold Dosa' is around 916 Rupees due to nuts, cashews and nine varieties of chutney,” Prasad explained.
The ‘Gold Dosa’ has become something of a hot topic among locals, with scores of food bloggers and social media influencers flocking to Prasad’s restaurant to try one for themselves.
"It's all very experiential, so what they have done is they have not only created a golden dosa but they have also created an experience around it," a customer said.
