Happy Feast! China's one-of-a-kind restaurant lets patrons dine with Gentoo penguins
China's first penguin restaurant has been serving patrons in Hangzhou's Zhongda Yintai shopping mall since its opening on February 14, where 12 gentoo penguins from Antarctica greet shoppers from across the city.
The Penguin Restaurant is designed to mirror penguins' natural habitat, with surfaces of ice, snow and rocks.
In footage filmed on Monday, tourists and locals were seemingly mesmerised by the unique restaurant, saying the idea was extraordinary.
Many said it was the first time they could watch animals while eating food.
"This is the first time I've been to a restaurant where we can be intimate with animals. Normally we see animals only in zoos or ocean parks. It was a new experience to be in an environment where we can eat while seeing animals", said Mr Chen, a visitor.
Some also brought their children and families to the Gentoo Penguin restaurant. The establishment has also launched a feeding event, which allows children and their families to enter the inner area and feed the penguins small fish.
