France: Trade unionists block Gennevilliers port in protest against pension reform
Dozens of trade unionists blocked the main access to the port of Gennevilliers on Monday to protest against the government's pension reforms.
The protest comes as the French parliament debates President Emmanuel Macron’s proposed pension reform bill, which would see the retirement age increased from 62 to 64. The administration argues that the change is needed to reduce the strain on the system caused by increasing life expectancy.
Strikes and marches against the draft saw around 1.2 million people take to the streets of France’s main cities last month, according to figures from the French Interior Ministry.
