'Rollable' smartphones and cutting-edge medical robots took centre stage on the third day of the 'Mobile World Congress' in Barcelona on Wednesday.

The trade show features the latest products from tech giants and startups, showcasing the newest technology in the mobile phone industry and beyond.

Motorola caught the headlines at this year’s event with its new 'rollable' smartphone. Although still in the concept stages, the device has turned heads with its flexible screen which can extend to 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) at the touch of a button.

“This allows the users to not only have a compact device but have the ability to expand something larger when they want to see a movie or their emails,” a Motorola sales representative said.

“This is a proof of concept, so we are excited to show people how 'rollables' can change our lives and what the future of mobiles looks like to us," she added.

Elsewhere at the trade fair, robotic medical devices proved to be a big hit with attendees, with many gathering to watch the innovative machines at work.

Mobile World Congress 2023 will be open to the public from February 27th until March 2nd.
