Bobi the Portuguese Rafeiro do Alentejo, officially the world’s oldest ever dog at the grand age of 30, was seen in footage from his home in Conqueiros, Leira on Tuesday.

"Even for us it’s surprising, we were always in a house in which our animals lasted for a long time, we had animals that lasted 17, 18, 19 years," explained his owner, Leonel Costa. "We never expected for an animal to last this long, for us it’s incredible."

The breed normally has a life expectancy of 12-14 years. Costa explained how Bobi has always been pretty healthy, needing hospital treatment just once. He sleeps around six hours a night and loves his food and exercise.

"Bobi likes to eat a lot. It does not matter if it is fish or meat. He has two favourite dishes, he loves grilled fish and chicken soup, a very traditional Portuguese dish. He doesn’t like spaghetti Bolognese, but he also enjoys walks, around the field, around nature, and in the pine forest," his owner continued.

"He eats the same things that we eat. We try to be a little bit careful with the seasoning. When we serve him food, we try to take the seasoning off as much as we can, but he is a dog that eats just like us", added Costa.

Bobi’s feat was confirmed by Guinness World Records on February 2, beating the previous one set by 'Bluey' from Australia, who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months.
