Paws-itively awesome! - Surfing dog conquers the waves on Peruvian beaches
A surfing dog from Peru’s Lima province is proving that riding the waves is not just for humans, as seen in footage captured at the San Bartolo beach on Thursday.
Makakilo and his owner, lifeguard Domingo Pianezzi have become local celebrities after winning several surfing tournaments.
Pianezzi has even enrolled his water-loving pooch on a life guard training course, where he has already been awarded an honorary diploma.
"Riding waves with your dog without him falling off is a team effort, practically like driving a rally car. The pilot is the one who drives, but it’s the other one who reads the road map,” Pianezzi explained. “So it's a team effort. And when we have team coordination, brother, sparks fly."
Pianezzi says Makakilo is more than just a pet, adding that he and his four-legged friend have become inseparable over the years and share a relationship comparable to a father and son.
“Makakilo is my son. You understand? I mean, I go up and down with him. As I explain. I'm going to Lima, I get on my scooter, I take him with me, I'm going to go jogging, he goes with me,” the surfing lifeguard said
“We are always together, we are a team. He sees that I go in to rescue a distressed person and he rescues them with me. I mean, it's a feeling like brothers, no, there are no words to describe it.”
