Syria: Armenia FM arrives in Aleppo on plane carrying 36 tonnes of humanitarian aid
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan arrived at Aleppo international airport on board an Armenian plane loaded with 36 tonnes of relief supplies on Thursday.
Footage also shows Mirzoyan, accompanied by the Aleppo governor, visiting the quake-affected areas of the city.
Haykak Arshamyan, Executive Director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, the organisation currently collecting aid for Syria, explained the background to the aid convoy.
"After this tragedy, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund organised a small fundraiser, and we donated 140,000 dollars to all Armenian educational centres operating in Syria as financial assistance to the entire staff", said Arshamyan.
The Armenian foreign minister also met Syrian president Bashar Al Assad in Damascus before heading to Aleppo to deliver the third batch of Armenian humanitarian aid.
The death toll from the deadly earthquakes which hit the Syria-Turkey border region earlier this month has now surpassed 47,000 people.
