Residents of Madrid could be seen near the Turkish Embassy in Spanish capital on Wednesday bringing food, warm clothing and other supplies for the earthquake victims.

"We are trying to give everything we can to help people who are now homeless and have no place to sleep or anything and the least we can do right now is this, we would like to help a lot more and for people to be encouraged to give whatever they can, anything right now at this moment would help,” said a Madrid resident Omar.

On Monday, the first 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit near Gaziantep at 04:17 local time (01:17 GMT). The second, slightly smaller quake came less than 12 hours later in Kahramanmaras province, destroying many buildings in the city.

Search and rescue operations continue around-the-clock to reach survivors in the quake hit regions in southern Turkey. At least 12,873 people have been reported killed with 62,937 injured as thousands of buildings collapsed in Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Sanliurfa, Kilis, Adana and Osmaniye.
