
Indonesia: 1 killed as severe floods, landslides hit Manado after torrential rain
One person was killed as severe floods destroyed dozens of houses Manado, the capital city of the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi, on Friday following heavy rainfall.
The water rose as high as three meters (9.84 ft) causing landslides, destroying dozens of buildings and flooding streets in several areas of the city. In the footage, residents can be seen moving though hardly accessible, flooded streets, with water levels reaching as high as an adult's waist.
The situation came after torrential rain has caused the Manado river to overflow according to the authorities. An evacuation operation was ongoing at the time of writing.
