Russia: Zolotoy Rog Bay in Vladivostok partly ices over for first time since 2018
The Zolotoy Rog Bay in Vladivostok was seen partly iced over for the first time in five years on Thursday, following severe frosts in the region.
Footage shows whole areas completely frozen, with some vessels stuck and others attempting break through the ice.
Primorsky Hydrometeorological Center first reported the issues on Wednesday, saying the anomaly was very rare and that the ice was 10-20 cm deep. It also outlined measures to address the problems caused.
"To ensure the passage of ships to the port of Vladivostok, to the oil depot, along the coastline and in the Strait of Bosporus Vostochny, ice-class tugs are working. The ice is breaking up, channels are being punctured and new, thin ice is forming in place of the broken ice," the statement explained.
The weather in the Primorsky region remains abnormally cold, while temperatures dropped to minus 40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit) this week.
