Dozens of animal rights activists staged a naked protest in Barcelona accusing the fashion industry of animal cruelty on Sunday.
Protesters from the group Anima Naturalis were filmed lying naked while covered by fake blood near Sagrada Familia cathedral to symbolise the slaughter and poor treatment of animals used in the production of fur and leather garments.
"With this action, we put ourselves in the skin of millions of animals that are mistreated and assassinated for the use of their skin. We want to show how their bodies are when they are killed and torn off their skin. We came here to get people conscious about it, to show that the use of fur it's unnecessary, and to show how many animals are used for a single coat", said Gemma Guaza, Coordinator of Anima Naturalis in Barcelona.
The activists denounced that every year more than 32 million animals are reportedly killed to make coats and clothes with their fur.
The performance aimed to support the European Citizens' Initiative 'Fur Free Europe', registered in 2022 to demand the European Commission to ban fur farming in the member countries.
