
Russia: Kazan hosts Islamic hockey tournament Kazan Hockey Cup
The first Kazan Hockey Cup 2023 International Ice Hockey Tournament for teams from Islamic countries and the Republic of Tatarstan ended in Kazan on Monday.
The first game was a 2:3 draw between Uzbekistan and the combined team of Algeria, Morocco and Lebanon. In the second game, Saudi Arabia beat Bahrain 6:2. The third game was a success for Tatarstan, who defeated Kyrgyzstan 9:7. The last game of the Ak Bars team against Iran ended 7:3.
The tournament features 12 men's and five women's amateur teams. The competition brought together over 300 athletes and officials from 13 nations including, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan as well as a combined team from Algeria, Morocco and Lebanon.
The competition was held in a group stage format. In the men's tournament, Uzbekistan, Tatarstan and the UAE scored the highest points. The winner of the women's championship was the team from Tatarstan.
The International Ice Hockey Tournament between Islamic countries took place in Kazan from January 13 to 17. A gala match featuring the best players from each team and the closing ceremony will take place at Tatneft Arena on Tuesday.
