Russia: Nadym residents witness rare optical halo phenomenon
Nadym residents were able to observe a halo, a rare optical phenomenon, on Tuesday. Due to the atmospheric event, citizens were able to see two additional 'suns'.
Footage, shot by an eyewitness, shows the local promenade and the harbour lit by the sun and its 'twins'.
A halo occurs when sunlight refracts in the Earth's atmosphere; for example, in freezing weather when the rays are refracted by ice crystals. The phenomenon occurs mostly during the winter months.
