Ellie May Craig, a young schoolgirl from Britain living in Dubai, has become the world’s youngest Master Scuba Diver at just 12 years old as seen in footage on Tuesday.

Craig completed a set of speciality dives off Fujairah's coastline, including a simulated rescue mission 21 meters underwater the day she turned 12, which is a prerequisite for the certification, making her the youngest person in the world to have passed this test, which places her among the elite of non-professional diving.

"I felt very proud that Ellie broke the record for the UAE", said his grandfather, Ray Hewitt. "It was lovely for her. And, as a grandfather, what more could you ask for?", he added.

The talented girl started her passion to diving when she was eight years old, after a visit to Maldives.

"When I was in the Maldives in 2018, I started snorkeling. I really enjoyed it. I just love the fish, the ocean, and everything about it. I wanted to continue being in the ocean. When I realised my grandfather did diving, I really wanted to start doing it myself," she said.

Londoner Toby Monteiro-Hourigan was the previous record holder. He completed his Master Scuba Diver test in December 2020, a day after his 12th birthday, as children under the age of 12 are not allowed to do the test.
