Oh, blow! International kite festival’s world record attempt in Ahmedabad snagged by lack of wind
The International Kite Festival’s return to Ahmedabad had everything going for it on Sunday, except for one crucial detail - the wind.
Over 100 enthusiasts were seen getting ready to attempt a Guinness World Record for the most number of them from a variety of countries, flying their kites simultaneously, before the weather decided it had other ideas.
"Today we were trying to break the Guinness book of records by flying as many kites as possible," said Thomas Abdulla from Malta. "We are many participants from 65 countries are more, so you can imagine the amount of kites, but the thing is we don't have any wind today. so we are waiting for good wind and then we will try our best to break the world record."
The record attempt was delayed, but it didn’t seem to damper too many spirits, with many happy to be back after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus.
"Today is the starting point of the festival, it's the first day so all teams are together and we are flying kites and meeting each other," said Selena from Russia.
It marks the the 32nd festival, organised by the Gujarat Tourism Corporation Ltd, with the G20 theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'. India holds the G20 presidency for 2023.
