
Brazil: Thousands of fans cheer football star Pele’s funeral procession through Santos
Thousands of football fans took to the streets of Santos on Tuesday to watch the funeral procession carrying legendary football player Pele’s casket to the Ecumenical Memorial Necropolis cemetery.
Footage shows fans cheering, applauding and waving flags, with a fire engine carrying the three-time World Cup winner’s coffin from Santos stadium, accompanied by a police convoy.
Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, died on December 29 at the age of 82, following a battle with colon cancer. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday at Latin America’s first vertical cemetery.
