A first-year graduate student Jaseem Muhammed made an attempt for Guinness World Record in 'Longest Handwritten Quran' nomination.

Footage filmed in Kozhikode on Saturday shows a 1.25 kilometre (more than 4,000 feet) paper scroll with surahs of Holy Quran written by hand in Islamic art style calligraphy being prepared for Guinness World Record officials' evaluation.

"It took me two years to complete this mission. My desire is to exhibit this in holy places like Mecca and Medina and also in the other foreign countries," shared young calligrapher.

Jaseem Muhammed started his project in August of the year 2020 and spent about 170,000 Rupees (about 2,000 USD) on it. The artwork weighs 114 kilogram (more than 250 pounds).

The Guinness World Record commission's official announcement has not been made at the time of writing.

The current world record belongs to Egyptian native Muhammad Gabriel, who had made a 700-metre long scroll with Holy Quran surahs.
