China: 'Special effects are impeccable' - Shenzhen residents react to 'Avatar: The Way of Water' premiere
Chinese movie enthusiasts shared emotions and opinions after watching the newly-released 'Avatar: The Way of Water' movie, in Shenzhen on Friday.
The movie was released in Mainland China on the same day as its global premiere date. China has reportedly been announced as the second-largest movie market and was one of few foreign films that could finally get access to Chinese movie market in recent months. Earlier this year, the six latest famous Marvel movies reportedly could not be shown in Chinese cinemas.
"Because it is a commercial blockbuster, the first thing is to expect its special effects. I want to see more big scenes have a grander visual concept, and I don't have too many expectations for the plot, because it is still based on the standards of commercial films," a visitor, Huang Jiyong, said.
Some moviegoers also commented on the restrictions and preventive measures for COVID-19.
"I was a little bit worried. I was worried that other people didn't wear masks, but everyone at the scene took protective measures very well." another visitor, Huang Jiyong, shared.
According to the latest updates on December 16, the movie had grossed 104 million yuan (14.9 million USD, 14.1 million EUR ) on the first day of sales. The first original 'Avatar' was released in 2009 and it went on nab 2.7 billion USD (2.5 billion EUR) globally.
