USA: Movie magic - Harry Potter’s broom, Obi-Wan’s lightsaber and even ET himself up for auction
Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) are hosting an exclusive auction of legendary Hollywood memorabilia, 'Icons and Idols', where fans and collectors can get their hands on props from 'ET', 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Wars', among many others, as footage filmed on Monday shows.
The auction, to be held on Saturday, December 17, is expected to generate 4-5 million dollars (3.76-4.7 million euros) for the celebrity auction house located in Beverly Hills, California.
According to Martin Nolan, CEO of Julien's Auctions, an ET mechanical movie model from the 1982 Steven Spielberg sci-fi classic is the centrepiece of the auction. “That’s very special because it speaks to the actual creation of something rather than something that's created digitally. So, people still want the actual thing,” he added.
Other items include the iconic broom used by Harry Potter in the 2001 fantasy blockbuster 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', and a pair of Everlast boxing gloves and boxing shorts worn by Robert DeNiro in Martin Scorsese's classic 'Raging Bull'.
The Star Wars prequel films are represented by two lightsabers, as used by Ray Park’s 'Darth Maul' and Ewan McGregor’s 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'.
