China: Hundreds protest in Shanghai over country's stringent COVID restrictions
Hundreds of people took to the streets of Shanghai on Sunday, to protest over the strict COVID-19 measures, and mourn the 10 victims of the deadly blaze in Xinjiang province.
Footage features demonstrators chanting and shouting, as lines of police officers watched the rally.
Some protesters believe Thursday’s blaze at a residential block in Urumqi was exacerbated by COVID-19 lockdown measures.
However, Chinese media reports suggested the area was classified as 'low risk' with those inside allowed to come and go. Beijing has recorded new daily records of COVID-19 cases in recent days, with 39,791 on Saturday.
