Bangladesh: Thousands rally in Dhaka against police brutality a day after BNP activist's death

Thousands of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) supporters gathered in Dhaka street on Saturday to protest the killing of BNP activist Mohammad Shaon Hossain.

The protesters could be seen marching through the capital streets, before gathering and praying for Mohammad Shaon Hossain.

Earlier on Thursday, Shaon was seriously injured after being hit in the head in clashes with police during an anti-government protest against the increase in prices of electricity, energy and daily commodities.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before dying there the next day in the intensive care unit

During the last weeks, several activists of the opposition party including BNP leader Tabith Awal were allegedly attacked by activists of the ruling Awami League.

Opposition parties including BNP have been holding continuous protest programs demanding the resignation of the government due to the ongoing energy and economic crisis in the country.
