    Hundreds of Hong Kong residents flocked to British Consulate General on Monday, to pay tribute to the UK’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away there on Thursday at the age of 96.

    Residents could be seen laying flowers, notes and pictures of the Queen, who led the former colony until 1997.

    The UK’s longest-serving monarch passed away on Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.

    Her doctors confirmed she had been under medical supervision, after becoming concerned for her health.

    Her eldest son Prince Charles - now King Charles III- was with her when she died.

    Earlier this year, the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.

    Her husband, Prince Philip, passed away last April at the age of 99.
