China: MOFA spox voices 'deep sympathy' on Shireen Abu Akleh death
Spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhao Lijian said that national authorities were 'shocked' by the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, and expressed 'express deep sympathy' about it, at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
The spokesperson also congratulated presidential candidates Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr, on his win in the Philippine presidential election.
"China and the Philippines are neighbours separated by a strip of water and partners in the same boat through ups and downs," he said.
Lijian slammed the EU and US for a 'foolish political show' over criticism of Cardinal Joseph Zen’s arrest in Hong Kong.
"China has always firmly opposed and strongly condemned it. With regard to the acts of violence committed by journalists who normally perform their duties, we hope that the relevant incidents can be dealt with impartially in accordance with the law," Zhao said.
In addition, as North Korea reports the first COVID outbreak and orders a lockdown early today, Zhao said China stands ready to provide full support and assistance to the DPRK in its fight against the epidemic.
