The Immortal Regiment march to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Victory in Soviet-German War took place in Melitopol for the first time since 2017.

Footage filmed on Monday shows thousands of people walking the city streets holding portraits of their relatives who participated in military actions back in 1941-1945.

After that, the column headed to the Brethren Cemetery memorial, where the people laid flowers at the newly lit Eternal Flame.

"With tears, as it is said, in my eyes, that's true. We are so happy to celebrate this holiday, we've been waiting for a long time, thank God," shared one of the participants of the procession.

Another participant noted that she came to Melitopol to visit her relatives and hug her mother, whom she 'hadn't seen for [a] long time'.
