Russian Defense Ministry on Friday published footage from the crash site of an alleged Tochka-U missile equipped with a cluster warhead in Melitopol.

According to the ministry, parts from the destroyed missiles and cluster munition warheads fell in a residential area, causing damage to several buildings, power lines, and a gas pipeline in the city's outskirt.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov, strikes were carried out from Kiev-controlled territory on the night of March 18 and repelled by Russian air defense assets.

Ukrainian authorities haven't commented on the incident.

On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military offensive against Ukraine.

On February 21, he had signed decrees recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed martial law throughout the country and announced a general mobilisation.

Russia's military offensive has drawn international condemnation from the EU, UK, and US, among other countries, and led to heavy sanctions imposed on Moscow.
