Provocative French film director Francois Ozon spoke of the premiere of his film, 'Peter von Kant' at the opening of the 72nd edition of the Berlinale Film Festival on Thursday.
Commenting on the film, produced during the pandemic lockdown, Ozon stressed, "All the directors were asking themselves, 'will we be able to make films again and under what conditions?'" and explained that the circumstances turned out to be 'acceptable' as the genre allowed for a 'Kammerspiel' (behind closed doors) production.
Actor Denis Menochet stated that filming in lockdown conditions felt "like a kind of summer camp" with mutual help and interconnection between crew members.
'Peter von Kant' is a loose adaption of German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 'The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant,' starring Isabelle Adjani and Denis Menochet.
Ozon is back in the Berlinale competition for the sixth time, 20 years after ‘8 Femmes’ won a Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution.
Berlinale will open its doors to the public until February 20, with a reduced capacity due to the COVID-19 safety protocols.
