Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador held a welcoming ceremony for his Argentine counterpart, President Alberto Fernandez, at the National Palace in Mexico City, on Tuesday.

Fernandez, who arrived in Mexico on Monday for an official visit, invited by Obrador to strengthen ties and to take part in the commemorative events related to National Flag Day on February 24.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced Fernandez' visit in a tweet earlier in February, saying 'Argentina and Mexico together' to underline the close ties between the countries.

On Wednesday, Fernandez will be heading to the state of Guerrero as a special guest for a ceremony commemorating the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence.
