A Nile crocodile had to undergo surgery in Florida's Gainesville to remove a shoe from its stomach.

The crocodile, named Anuket, had gobbled up a shoe that fell off the foot of a tourist ziplining over the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in December.

Vets at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine performed the operation on February 5 after previous attempts to dislodge the shoe from the 3.2-metre (10.5-foot), 154.6-kg (341-pound) crocodile had been unsuccessful.

St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park said that since the operation Anuket has been resting and recovering at an off-display area in the zoo.
