A White House deputy press secretary has been suspended for one week without pay after he reportedly threatened a female reporter over a story concerning his romantic past.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed the news in her press briefing in Washington DC on Friday saying, "I take this very seriously. I’m a woman... many of you know many people in this building, including the President, who take these allegations quite seriously."

Psaki's deputy TJ Ducklo was reportedly suspended after it was revealed he had threatened a female reporter at Politico, Tara Palmeri, over a story she was working on about Ducklo's romantic relationship with another reporter.

"Ducklo... apologised to the reporter quite shortly after the comments were made," said Psaki.
