
Syria: Aleppo airport resumes commercial flights after COVID hiatus
A Syrian passenger plane which had departed from Beirut, touched down at Aleppo airport on Thursday, after the restoration of air traffic at the airport, which was suspended for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Director of the Health Center at Aleppo International Airport, Dr Salwa Ibrahim, "The protocols approved by the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organisation and the Civil Aviation Organisation were followed."
She added: "The followed protocol is to verify the negative coronavirus test result from the laboratories approved by the Syrian Ministry of Health."
Air traffic had returned to Aleppo airport in February 2020, with the operation of a civilian plane that came from Damascus, after an eight-year hiatus.
Aleppo International Airport is the second largest airport in Syria in terms of area and capacity.
