At least two people were killed, and several more injured, after a car drove through a pedestrian zone, in Trier on Tuesday.
Police were seen inspecting the cordoned off perimeter, as several emergency vehicles were present on site.
According to local police, the 51-year-old suspect has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized.
