Colombia: Medellin locals welcome festive season with 'gunpowder festival'
Locals in Medellin welcomed the festive season with fireworks, on the first of December on Monday, to mark the Alborada, a traditional 'gunpowder festival.'
A group of young locals gathered on a hilltop to celebrate the festivity and watch the fireworks over the city.
The festivity dates back to 2003, where the residents of Medellin were woken up to a large amount of burning gunpowder roaring through the city as popular belief suggest a group of drug dealers celebrated a good year for business.
After receiving a large number of criticism on social media, this year's celebration has been accompanied by another festival organised by the city's authorities with the hope that people would trade in the fireworks for musical numbers and street performances.
