Police used water cannons while attempting to disperse anti-lockdown protesters during a demonstration in Berlin on Wednesday.
The demonstration was taking place underneath Berlin's iconic Brandenburg Gate which is located right next to the German parliament where lawmakers were debating changes on the Protection against Infection Act to ensure that measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 are written into law.
Two police water cannons can be seen soaking the protesters underneath the Brandenburg Gate, before police in riot gear rush into the crowd to attempt to disperse them.
Germany broke national records with confirmed cases of coronavirus in October and on November 2 entered a month-long lockdown. Germany has reported 835,750, confirmed cases of COVID-19, leading to 13,273 virus-related deaths thus far.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has justified the restrictions, saying that they are necessary to bring down the rate of new infections in order that contract tracing is possible, and to prevent the healthcare system being overwhelmed.
